JH 10 Jetty Damage Repair Works
Shell Jetty, Port Dickson
Client: Shell Refining Co (FOM) Bhd
Year: 2006

Technical Challenges:
a) Construction of the Corbels - as there are no existing platforms to work on, with the sea water a few meters below. Hanging scaffolding and platforms were constructed from the top road deck to provide the working space and construction of the formwork, concreting and jacking works.

b) To design a method and gadget to free and relieve the pre-loaded stresses on the Capping Beam. U-Shaped Jacking Frames - designed and certified by Consultant (P.E) to take all the loads, were used to lift the PC Beams. Base plates and steel rollers were also designed to be placed at the bottom of the PC Beams to allow free sliding movement when the stresses are removed.

Desludging of Effluent Water at Holding Basin
Shell Refinery, Port Dickson
Client: Shell Refining Co (FOM) Bhd
Year: 2006-2007

Technical Challenges:
a) To desludge with minimum agitation of the loose, top layer of sludge and ensure effluent discharge is within DOE limits. An amphibious, self-maneuvering, hydraulically controlled submersible pumping equipment called the Watermater was deployed to do desludging work from inside the basin. Geotextile screens were lined along the perimeter fence of the oil barrier and pump suction intakes, acting as a filter screen. Daily TSS and COD readings were taken from samples of effluent discharge to verify discharge limits.

b) To handle, remove, transport and discharge the sludge in a safe, clean manner, withut any spilage or incident. Tipper trucks were modified with built-in runner seals to prevent leakage of sludge during transportation. A leak test was conducted with client prior to mobilisation to site. Trucks were cleaned with high pressure water jets before and after the transportation of sludge. A concrete-lined temporary sludge storage farm was designed and built according to local authorities and DOE requirements.
